Purdue University, Indianapolis

Dennis Savaiano is the Virginia C. Meredith Professor of Nutrition Policy at Purdue University. He directs the North Central Nutrition Education Center of Excellence, a USDA NIFA-funded center. He is also the Associate Director of the Community Health Partnerships for Indiana’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).

Dr. Savaiano has studied lactose digestion for the past four decades. The results of these studies indicate that almost all maldigesters can consume significant amounts of dairy foods without experiencing symptoms of intolerance. Furthermore, he is interested in methods of intervention that will allow "lactose intolerant" individuals to learn that they can consume dairy foods without experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms.
