Dr. Paddon-Jones has undergraduate degrees in Medical Imaging and Physiology from the Queensland Institute of Technology and the University of Queensland, a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Ball State University and a PhD in Human Movement Studies from the University of Queensland. He was the 2006 recipient of the Vernon R. Young International Award for Amino Acid Research.

Currently, Dr. Paddon-Jones is a professor in the Department of Nutrition and Metabolism at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He is the director of the Metabolism Laboratory in the School of Health Professions and a senior fellow of the Sealy Center on Aging.

Dr. Paddon-Jones’ research focuses on mechanisms and interventions influencing skeletal muscle protein synthesis and breakdown in healthy and clinical populations. He has conducted several NIH, NASA and industry supported studies examining muscle protein metabolism, exercise, nutrition and sarcopenia.
