MARIO KRATZ, PhD
University of Washington
Dr. Mario Kratz has a PhD in Nutrition from the University of Bonn in Germany. He is an associate member in the Public Health Sciences division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and a research associate professor at the University of Washington in the departments of Medicine and Epidemiology. He is also a core faculty member in the Nutritional Sciences Program at the University of Washington, and an associate director of the Immunology & Inflammation Core of the University of Washington Diabetes Research Center.
Dr. Kratz’s research is focused on the relationship between diet, obesity, and chronic diseases associated with obesity, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. His group conducts well-controlled clinical feeding trials to improve our understanding of the relationship between diet, obesity, and chronic disease. His laboratory is also heavily invested in studying low-grade chronic inflammation of adipose tissue as a crucial link between diet composition, obesity, and disease.
